A man has been sentenced to 75 days in jail for a brutal random attack on a former exotic dancer and for having drugs intended for long-term care patients. The 40 year-old man pleaded guilty to assault and attempted kidnapping for the attack that included the discovery of what police believe was a rape kit.
Police were alerted to prescription medicine, intended for people living at long-term care homes, and syringe found at his home. The man was a Registered Practical Nurse at two long-term care facilities. The plastic strips, containing pills such as antibioticss, diabetes treatment, blood thinners and vitamins, bore patients' names. Part of this man's job was to administer the drugs.
The attack on the woman began after a strip club closing for the night, where the woman worked as a dancer. The single mother had left work and was parking at her boyfriend's home when she noticed a car pull up. The driver of the car, identified as the attacker, got out and walked to another address, the woman was getting out of her car, when he turned and rushed her.
He grabbed her hair and sweatshirt and started pulling her toward his car. The woman screamed for help and told him to take her purse. Instead he dragged her, then dropped and wrestled her. He grabbed at her clothes. The woman fought back, gouging his face with her fingernails. He punched her back. A neighbour heard her screams and ran to help. The woman broke free only to be grabbed and tackled again. She broke free again and ran for her boyfriend's door. Her attacker ran to his car after taking her purse.
The neighbor recorded the licence. Police watched the man's house until he returned, his face scratched. In his car, police found a blindfold and a sex toy. In the trunk was a machete and handcuffs that police believed were part of a rape kit. The man's DNA was found in scrapings taken from under the woman's fingernails.
At his brief trial and sentencing, the man said nothing and looked away from his wife and her family.
